Easter is upon us and what better way to celebrate than with an Easter Egg Hunt.   Have fun with our RHYMING RIDDLES.  There are 12 riddles to solve in this hunt which are just perfect for lower primary students.  As our kids have got older and we do a hunt each year, we have found there are only so many years in a row there is great excitement to search the backyard for plastic eggs.  By getting creative and changing the hunt each year with different activities it stays new and we have hours of excitement and entertainment. Happiness Day Activities – Choosing Happiness

What does it mean to be happy?  We talk about the concept all the time.      Is happiness eating the chocolate bar after school or maybe playing at the park with friends?  Or is it cultivating gratefulness and accepting all emotions that will result in lasting happiness. We are often conflicted by the fleeting moments of happiness – the getting what I want when I want it, rather than the concept of seeing happiness as a habit that needs to be developed over time .  Lasting happiness is complicated and doesn’t come with a secret code that if we tap into it we will forever be in a state of happiness. International Day Of Women And Girls In Science Activities

 

books-for-girls-scienceThis is the first year we have put the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on our list of days.   It is only the second time that it is to be celebrated.  The STEM subjects are still dominated by boys although when girls do take these subjects they do exceedingly well at them.  Celebrating this day for us is all about challenging the male stereotype of the scientist.  We all know about Albert Einstein, Thomas Watt, Thomas Edison, and Benjamin Franklin.  However, after reading Ada Twist Scientist I thought for Miss C we should look into how women have progressed science, innovation and technology.For anyone needing encouragement to be the next inventor or if you wonder if science is for you – take a look at the book lists, links and activities and give it a go on any day not just on Saturday – Day of International Women and Girls in Science.

Days Are For Celebrating

As the school year begins each year we pick a day or 2 a month to celebrate.  I’m not talking the usual, Birthday, Christmas, Easter and Mother’s Day, special days and there are so many more.  As important as they all are –  they are present giving celebrations.  I am talking about those other days in the year that are designated special days where we observe, commemorate, promote or mobilize people to action. These special days serve and act as reminders to the world community of the issues we face as a collective.We use the UN calendar to pick our days.
